"More focused" preparations for lent

CEBU, Philippines - The Police Regional Office 7 will carry out a “more focused” preparation for the Holy Week in anticipation of candidates to continue campaigning during this time.

Senior Superintendent Silvestre Primero, Deputy Regional Director for Administration, said some changes will be implemented on their preparations for the Holy Week, but the “minor adjustments” are yet to be announced.

What can be expected is that Central Visayas will be placed under heightened alert to ensure the safety of the public. Just like last year, strict security measures will be put in place at the bus terminals and seaports in Cebu.

Like last year, the police are also expected to double their efforts in securing the crowd during the annual “Sugat” on Easter Sunday in Naga. Up to 10,000 people are expected to attend the anticipated yearly event and the police believe politicians may take advantage of the huge crowd. 

Additional teams from the Regional Mobile Group, Special Reaction Unit, and different police stations will be stationed to other towns with big Holy Week celebrations, like in Minglanilla and Argao.

In Cebu City, policemen will be stationed in different churches, especially those with major activities.

The police vowed to keep the sanctity of the Holy Week which may possibly be threatened by some politicians, who, out of lack of delicadeza, may still campaign during this time. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO   FREEMAN NEWS)
