Talisay fire claims 10 houses

-

CEBU, Philippines - A fire struck in sitio Krasher in barangay Lawaan III in Talisay City yesterday claiming 10 houses and four pigs.

Talisay City fire chief investigator SFO1 Cesar Dela Serna pegged the damage at P180, 000.

Dela Serna is looking at electrical misuse as the cause of the fire, the second biggest for 2010 in the city.

Last January, at least 30 houses were lost to a fire in barangay San Isidro.

Dela Serna said three fire trucks owned by city and fire trucks from barangay Tabunok also responded.

The four hogs were owned by Brenda Hermoso. She had saved eight others from the blaze.

Lawaan III barangay captain Delia Ybañez said the settlers could be considered as squatters because the lot they are occupying is owned by the Selma family from Minglanilla town.

She said the barangay has tents to lend to the victims. Some of them can be sheltered at the covered court of the barangay.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) social workers will attend to the victims’ needs.

On the other hand, a fire broke out in barangay Yati, Liloan destroying a house.

Liloan Fire investigator Bob Bolabola said the fire started inside a room of the house owned by Reynaldo Generalao.

No one was at home when it broke out.

Bolabola believes that it was another case of electrical misuse.

“Nitrabaho man gud ni si Generalao kay security mani siya asta pud ang iyang asawa, “ Bolabola said. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc   (FREEMAN NEWS)
