700 fake antennas seized

CEBU, Philippines - Fake antennas worth over half a million pesos were confiscated by the National Bureau of Investigation from a Chinese businessman here in Cebu City who is allegedly supplying the counterfeit Baron antenna in the whole of Mindanao.

The 700 pieces of fake antennas were seized from Super Diamond Enterprises located along Magallanes Street during a raid last Thursday evening.

The store owned by Peter Estacio Tiu was subject of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 11 Judge Ramon Daomilas for violation of Section 155 of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines based on the complaint of Adtel Incorporated.

Tiu was not around during the raid but NBI agent Bernard de la Cruz said he will file criminal charges against Tiu for violation of the Intellectual Property Rights Law and for unfair competition.

Dela Cruz said they have placed Tiu’s commercial establishment under surveillance for at least two weeks after receiving complaints that he is engaged in the manufacture and sale of fake Baron Super Antenna, Baron Extended Range Antenna and Baron KGL Antenna.

According to de la Cruz, Tiu is supplying the fake antennas in the entire Mindanao. In fact, before the raid the other night, a 20-footer container had just been shipped to Mindanao.

De la Cruz said they were not able to apprehend the container van anymore because it has left the pier before they were issued the search warrant.

On top of the 700 pieces antenna, the raiding team also seized assorted rolls of cable wires, three boxes of aluminum tubes, and other raw materials for making antennas. — Fred P. Languido/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
