3,000 marijuana stalks uprooted

CEBU, Philippines - At least 3,000 stalks of fully grown marijuana plants were uprooted by a composite team of soldiers, policemen, and barangay officials in the mountainous area of sitio Pulgason, Barangay Langosig, Danao City last Sunday afternoon.

Langosig Barangay Captain Editha Quimbo led in the uprooting of the marijuana plants. Quimbo was assisted by some policemen in the city and elements of the Army’s 78th Infantry Battalion.

Second Lieutenant Jesus Binarao said that a concerned citizen tipped them of the marijuana plants. They then went to the area, which is several kilometers away from the highway, and saw the marijuana plants.

Binarao said although they uprooted the marijuana plants, they failed to arrest the alleged owner.

The team then turned over the uprooted plants to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 for proper disposition.

Danao City police under Superintendent Elmer Lim will conduct an investigation for the arrest of the owner of the uprooted marijuana plants. — Niña G. Sumacot/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
