Student shot to death on V-day

CEBU, Philippines - A 22-year-old student died after his neighbor shot him while he was celebrating Valentine’s Day with his friends across the Rizal Park in Danao City evening last Sunday.

The fatality was identified as Jade Giangan of PG Almendas Street, Suba, Danao City. He died from a gunshot wound on his head.

The suspect, Reynan Baton, voluntarily surrendered to authorities right after the incident.

Police surmise the suspect might have a grudge on the victim, as the latter was merely walking with his friends when Baton casually approached them and shot Giangan on the head.

SPO4 Edgar Gomez of the Danao police said both the victim and the suspect were with their friends during the incident.

Giangan was first brought to the Danao District Hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for further treatment. He passed away the next day.

Baton is now detained at the Danao Police Station while awaiting appropriate charges against him. - Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
