Joavan sued for attempted homicide

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City Police have filed before the City Prosecutor’s Office an attempted homicide case against Joavan Fernandez, adopted of incumbent Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez, over the traffic accident Joavan figured in with two people on a motorcycle the other day.

The said criminal case is on top of two more cases for reckless imprudence resulting to physical injuries and reckless imprudence resulting to damage of property.

Jonathan Ignacio, 24, a resident of Inayagan, Naga City, was driving his motorcycle with his wife, Iren, 26, riding pillion, when he figured in an accident at corner of a highway in barangay Pooc and Lawaan II with the mayor’s son.

Joavan allegedly ran into the motorcycle with his Isuzu Bighorn after he turned right without signaling.

Ignacio had alleged that instead of helping them as they were both injured, Joavan pointed a cocked gun at him.

About five minutes later traffic policemen PO3 Ereolito Saladas, PO2 Roelito Tano and PO1 Manolito Daal arrived at the scene, but Ignacio said he could not remember if they frisked Joavan despite his warning that he was armed.

Tano said there was no point in searching Joavan or his vehicle as the case was called in as a vehicular accident.

Early this month the Commission on Elections had issued a gun ban with the elections already coming.

Talisay City police chief Henry Biñas had ordered an investigation into the incident and also ordered the relief of the three traffic policemen.

Meanwhile, Biñas said since the complaints are already filed, they will now have to wait for the warrant of arrest to be released by the court before they can apprehend Joavan who has not been seen even by his family since the incident. — Liv G. Campo/BRP   (FREEMAN NEWS)
