Best photos, films, docus to be awarded tomorrow

-

CEBU, Philippines - An “Oscar-type” of awarding ceremony awaits winners of the Sinulog 2010 photo, video documentary and short film contests tomorrow afternoon at SM Cinema 1.

Ricky Ballesteros, executive director of Sinulog Foundation Inc., said the awarding ceremony will adopt the concept of the Academy Awards to recognize the excellence of this year’s winners. Local celebrities and Cebu’s top models have been tapped to present the awards.

Ballesteros said past winners of Miss Cebu would also recognized. The awarding ceremony will begin at 1pm.

The official list of winners will be made public tomorrow.

The awards to be given under the film categories include best story, best director, best cinematography, best production design, best sound engineering and musical scoring, best editing, and best screenplay.

For the first time in six years, the Sinulog Foundation will give out the best actor, best actress and best child performer awards.

Ballesteros announced earlier that the short film entries will be judged separately from the video documentaries because the two have distinctive artistic requirements.

The two grand winners in the short film and video documentary categories will each receive P30,000. The second and third prize winners will receive P20,000 and P10,000 each.

Five consolation winners in both categories will also receive P1,000.

Meanwhile, the Sinulog Foundation will recognize the best photos depicting the Grand Parade contingents, fluvial and solemn procession, float /higante and puppeteers, décor/arch and sidelights, and festival queen.

Photographers of the top five winning photos in each category will receive P15,000; P10,000; P5,000; P3,000; and P2,000, respectively. The six consolation winners will get P1,000 each.

The photographer of the over-all best photo will receive P50,000 while the second prize winner will receive P30,000. The third prize winner will receive P20,000.

After the awarding ceremony, the exhibit of the Sinulog 2010 photos dubbed “Sinulog at 30” will be formally opened at 4pm. The exhibit will run from February 1 to 10.

It will be followed by a special screening of the top 10 video documentaries and short films at 5pm.

Ballesteros encouraged Mass Communication students to watch the winning entries. Tickets are available for free at the SFI office at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Outside SM City, the Tribu Basakanon and Abellana National School, which won second place at the Free Interpretation and Sinulog-based categories, respectively, will entertain mall goers with street dancing. — Marjun A. Baguio/JMO
