FOR FAILURE TO ARREST DUMPIT: Court asked to order police to explain

CEBU, Philippines - The prosecution has filed a motion to direct the officials of the Philippine National Police “to inform the court” in writing within five days of the action the police have taken relative to the warrant of arrest against SPO1 Adonis Dumpit on the murder charges filed against him.

Prosecution lawyer Alfred Oguis filed the urgent ex-parte motion against Police Regional Office-7 director Lani-o Nerez, Cebu City Police Office director Patrocinio Commendador and Regional Security Agencies and Guards Supervisory Unit chief P/Supt Rex Derilo who were given copies of the warrant of arrest against the controversial police officer.

Oguis is asking the court to direct the police officials to report on their recent operations to capture Dumpit and answer why he still remains at large until now.

“Accused was not present during the hearing and still remains at large. Likewise to date, the officials to whom the copies of the warrant of arrest have been furnished have failed to inform the court of the status of the service of the same,” Oguis said in his motion.

Regional Trial Court Branch 6 judge Ester Veloso has issued the warrant of arrest against Dumpit for the death of robbery suspect Ron-ron Go, who was still a minor when the killing happened.

Dumpit’s lawyer, Pedro Leslie Salva has earlier asked the court to recall the arrest warrant against Dumpit because the Office of the Ombudsman has not yet filed a motion to amend the information.

Veloso however partially denied the motion, saying she cannot act on it yet because the prosecution and the Visayas Ombudsman have yet to receive a copy of the resolution issued by the Ombudsman of the Military and Other Law Enforcement Offices.

Further, she explained that she will only act on the defense’s motion once the Ombudsman will file its comment on the resolution of the MOLEO. — Jasmin U. Labaco/WAB    (FREEMAN NEWS)
