Teodoro, Tamano join 'Suroy-Suroy Sugbo'
CEBU, Philippines - The opening day of the “Suroy-Suroy Sugbo” - Southern Trail has turned into a political venue, as governors, mayors and other elective officials across the three regions in the Visayas signed a manifesto of support to the presidential bid of Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro who was among those who joined the activity yesterday.
Aside from Teodoro, opposition senatorial aspirant Adel Tamano also joined the more three hundred participants of the Suroy-Suroy in rediscovering several towns in the south.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led the opening day of the Suroy-Suroy in Minglanilla town accompanied by her running mate businessman Glenn Soco and were warmly welcomed by the municipal officials.
The governor told reporters that the increasing number of visitors who joined the Suroy-Suroy every year shows that they believe in the program.
According to her, the three-day visit to the different municipalities, do not only aim to promote local products but also the tourism industry.
Teodoro, on the other hand, expressed gratitude to Garcia who invited him to join the Suroy-Suroy, which he said, is very important for the development of eco-tourism in Cebu towns.
He said the program also played a big role in the promotion of the tourism industry of the country.
After Minglanilla, the team visited Naga City and the towns of Sibonga and San Fernando.
In Argao town, over 30 mayors and governors of different local government units in the Visayas led by the Cebu governor, signed a manifesto of support for the presidential bid of Teodoro.
Teodoro said the show of support by the local officials is a big challenge to him and an honor at the same time as it happened in Argao, the native place of his close friend, the late Press Secretary Cerge M. Remonde.
According to him, the governors’ confidence on him will guide him to introduce changes once he gets elected as president.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary and Lakas-Kampi senatorial candidate Silvestre Bello III yesterday defended their party standard bearer Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro, saying “it is never too late to change the public’s mind” and make things favorable to them despite the latter’s low ratings in the various preference surveys.
Bello said that it is just a matter of effective marketing to let the people know who Teodoro is and to convince them that Teodoro is the best candidate.
“Gibo is a very good product, no one can question that. He has the qualifications. He is the type who can handle all kinds of situations,” Bello said. — Jose P. Sollano and Jessica Ann R. Pareja/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
