Guard shoots boy, 14, dead

-

CEBU, Philippines - A security guard shot dead a 14-year-old boy he suspected was out to steal scrap metal from the shipyard he was guarding last Wednesday morning in barangay Tayud, Consolacion town.

Marikim Solicar Alao, of sitio Bangkirohan of the said barangay, was killed after being shot by Rodrigo Dalagan Alog, a security guard with Alywin Security and Detective Agency Corporation, currently assigned to Colorado Shipyard.

SPO2 Nelson Ducay, chief investigator of Consolacion police station, said that before the incident the victim and his friends Gerome Arita and Ralph Bomento, both also minors, allegedly agreed to go to the shipyard to get scrap metal.

The three got on a banca and rowed to the shipyard.

Ducay further narrated that the kids were just about to land on the seashore when someone threw stones at them and they put back out to sea in a hurry.

Suddenly a gunshot was heard and the victim fell into the water. He had been shot in the back of the head by Alog with a 12-gauge shotgun.

The victim’s friends got him back on the banca and rowed him to safety. He was later taken by bystanders to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center but he did not make it there alive.

The suspect surrendered to the police. A charge for murder was filed against him before the court. — Nina G. Sumacot/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
