MCIAA: No special treatment for Yellow cabs

-

CEBU, Philippines - Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority general manager Danilo Augusto Francia told the Cebu City officials that it is not true that the airport authority lets only the yellow airport taxis pick-up arriving passengers at the airport and also explained that they have no plan to compete with the business of taxi operators.

Francia issued the statement through a letter that he sent to Vice Mayor Michael Rama after some taxi operators and drivers complained saying airport officials allow only the yellow airport taxis to serve the arriving passengers at the airport.

According to Francia the airport taxis, commonly known as the airport yellow cabs, are not the exclusive transport service for the arriving air transport travelers but are just an additional transport service provider for the general public.

“The allegation that we restrict the operations of the regular taxi units at the airport is baseless and unfounded. The airport authority has never barred the operations of the regular taxi units as we even provided them with free parking spaces while the other accredited transport service providers operating at the airport were required to pay fees and charges,” Francia said.

The yellow taxis are owned by some of the taxi operators who decided to band together and operate brand new units only for the airport’s arriving passengers. The policy is that these yellow cabs are not allowed to carry passengers bound to the airport that is why its flagdown rate and its fare for the succeeding 250 meters is double compared to the ordinary taxi units. — Rene U.
