City to get four more Kaohsiung buses

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government will soon acquire another four units of second-hand buses donated by Kaohsiung, Taiwan to augment the existing transportation facilities of the city.

City protocol and information officer Nagiel Bañacia yesterday said Kaohsiung City officials have decided to donate more used vehicles to Cebu City being one of its sister cities.

Councilor Augustus Pe, Jr. assured Bañacia that he will prepare a resolution to appropriate the needed budget for the shipment of said donated buses from Taiwan to Cebu.

Pe said each bus will cost the city government P500,000 in freight fees, but he explained that it is still an advantage to the city because each bus is worth about P6 million.

“Makabentaha gihapon ta kay bisan og mogasto pa ta og mga two million pesos pag-transport sa upat ka donated Kaohsiung buses, dako man ang kantidad sa mga buses…amo na nang gikwenta,” Pe said.

Cebu City already received several Kaohsiung buses after it became a sister city of Kaohsiung in 1990.

These buses are openly seen plying the various parts of the city carrying passengers particularly during transport strikes and those attending funeral rites.

On some occasions, the city only asks donations to cover fuel expenses from those who request for the buses. But most of the time, the buses are used free of charge. — Rene U. Borromeo/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
