PRO, CPPO chiefs find tape on firearms intact

-

CEBU, Philippines - Chief Supt. Lani-O Nerez, director of the Police Regional Office-7, confirmed that none of his men fired a gun during the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve revelries.

Nerez already inspected the taped muzzles of his men’s service firearms and found the adhesive to be intact.

The inspection was conducted yesterday at the grounds of their headquarters.

There were reports that bullets were recovered. But on Nerez’ part, he said that they are to clarify yet and check on the recovered slugs to determine if these would match those of his men’s service weapons.

Nerez pointed out it is possible that other civilian gun holders “committed such acts of foolishness.”

“Dili pasabot nga naay naigo sa stray bullets nga pulis naghimo ana kay naa man say mga civilian nga gunholders,” Nerez said.

The recovered bullets are now in the custody of the crime laboratory for the process of counterchecking with the use of their database.

Senior Supt. Jesus Gaquing, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, conducted his own inspection and found out as well that the tapes over the muzzles were also intact.

In the provincial level, one incident of indiscriminate firing was reported which happened in Talisay City. A young girl was almost hit in her head, but by some Divine intervention, the tiara made of plastic she put on to match her ballerina dress miraculously shielded her from harm.

The said bullet was already submitted to the crime laboratory for investigation. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
