CEBU, Philippines - At least twelve houses in sitio Mangga, barangay Tisa here in Cebu City were burned down when fire occurred at quarter to 9:00 a.m. yesterday.
Even though firefighters found it difficult to penetrate the interior portion of the said place, they were able to control the fire in 10 minutes.
Chief Insp. Virginia Toledo, currently the in-charge of the Office of the Cebu City Fire Marshal, said that they had the hoses connected to be able to stretch out the contraption nearer to the affected houses.
It was learned from her that the fire started at the house of one Herman Ragasajo which eventually spread to adjacent houses.
Ten of the houses were razed while the other two were destroyed.
Neighbors of Ragasajo told reporters that prior to the incident, the couple had a fight. Minutes later, they heard a loud thud from inside of the couple’s house.
Priscilla Tulod, one of the fire victims, said that she was jolted from sleep and was not able to save any of her things.
“Kani ra gyod akong gisul-ob maoy akong nadala. Pastilan paita,” Tulod said.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
Firefighters estimated the damage to have reached P250,000.
This is considered the first fire incident this year in the city.
Despite the Busay fire last Saturday, the Tisa incident is considered as the first big fire for this year here as the former is said to be a small incident with only one house gutted. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV (FREEMAN NEWS)
