Woman found dead in hotel

- Marjun A. Baguio -

CEBU, Philippines - A 24-year-old woman was found dead inside her room in one of the posh hotels in Lapu-Lapu City last December 22 in an apparent suicide.

The victim was identified as Elke Mae Victorio.

The death was reported by the victim’s husband to the Lapu-Lapu City Police only 19 hours after the discovery in their room.

According to the initial investigation conducted by the team headed by SPO2 Rolito Jumao-as of the Lapu-Lapu Homicide Division, the woman checked in the hotel together with her husband (name withheld pending investigation).

It wasn’t however disclosed when the two checked into the hotel.

Jumao-as said that on December 22 at around 10 p.m., the husband found his wife was already hanging with the cord of an electric iron tied to her neck from the ceiling beside the closet of their room.

The police officer said that the husband reported the incident to their station only at 5 p.m. on the 23rd.

When the police went to the room, the body was already lying on the bed.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), who went to the hotel said that they found no signs of foul play.

The husband told the police that he tried to save the victim by cutting off the cord using a can opener and put her on the bed.

The police said that there was also no sign of struggle found and the wound on the victim’s neck was consistent with hanging.

The autopsy report showed that the woman died due to suicide.

Jumao-as said that the husband showed them text messages sent by his wife that seem to show she was contemplating on suicide.

The police will however continue to check other angles noting the time that elapsed before the crime was reported. — /NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
