Man kills self by jumping off ship

-

CEBU, Philippines - A 23-year-old man ended his life by jumping from a boat he was riding off the waters of Barangay Pulangbato, Bogo City the other night.

Police said Jessie Sotto, resident of Barangay Kalapayan, Kawayan town in Masbate was boarding the Super Shuttle Ferry 19 bound for his hometown. However, a few minutes after the ship left the Bogo City wharf, a commotion occurred when he suddenly jumped off the ship without any reason.

SPO3 Allan Dosdos of Bogo City Police Station said that another passenger, James Sinadhan, told them that he saw the victim went to the second deck of the vessel.

Sinadhan described the victim as “he was daydreaming.” The witness added that they were shocked when minutes later the victim jumped into the sea.

The crew of the ship immediately conducted a rescue operation to recover the victim and rushed him to Severo Verallo Memorial Hospital in Bogo City but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.

It was learned that the victim worked for his older sister in the market of Consolacion.

Prior to the incident, he allegedly asked permission to go home to their province for Christmas but his sister did not allow him.

Due to his insistence, his sibling allegedly agreed to let him go to their province but only gave him small amount of money.

“Mura ni siya’g naguol, loner kaayo sab siguro nga niambak ni siya,” SPO3 Dosdos said.

The cadaver of the victim was already claimed by his sister. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/WAB
