Balili lot to be center of agriculture program

CEBU, Philippines - The controversial Balili lot in barangay Tinaan in Naga town will soon be the center of the provincial government’s program in the field of fishery and agriculture.

Cebu provincial agriculturist Necias Vecoy said that Governor Gwendolyn Garcia instructed him two months ago to utilize the Balili lot for provincial agriculturist activities.

Vecoy said Garcia wants to maximize the place, as she also wants the provincial agriculturists to prioritize the implementation of programs that improve the agricultural products in the different municipalities.

Yesterday, Governor Garcia visited the Balili lot for the stocking up of tilapia and bangus fingerlings.

Administration Presidential aspirant Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro also visited the place before speaking before members of the Barangay Health Workers and Day-Care workers at Minglanilla Sports Complex.

Teodoro said he supported the program of the provincial government in prioritizing the program related to food and security.

Garcia was accompanied by Naga City Mayor Valdemar Chiong and members of the provincial board and mayors in the ceremonial stocking of tilapia and bangus.

The governor also led the ceremonial planting of agricultural crops and the vermiculture at the lot.

While Garcia admitted that the Balili lot became the center of controversy recently, she said it will not affect the provincial government’s implementation of priority programs.

The provincial board has conducted its investigation to the alleged irregularities behind the purchase of the Balili lots.

A separate investigation also conducted by the Office of the Visayas Ombudsman over the Balili property.
