Man shot dead over grudge
CEBU, Philippines - A man was shot dead over a personal grudge last Friday night in Figueroa Sreet, Barangay San Nicolas proper, Cebu City.
Jeremias Tañola, 26, was shot dead by Cipriano Rivera, 43, who also slapped the victim’s live-in partner prior to the incident.
Florence Rivera, live-in partner of the victim, who happened to be a sister of the suspect, alleged to the police that she was walking on her way home around 7:45 p.m. when Cipriano met and slapped her.
This then prompted her to report the matter to the victim, who, in response, went out of their house to look for the suspect. However, without Tañola’s knowledge, the suspect, who was bringing a gun with him, shot the former to the upper part of his upper stomach.
The victim was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but he died few minutes later.
Cipriano, on the other hand, voluntarily surrendered himself to his neighbor, SPO4 Gualberto Oroc, who then turned him over to San Nicolas Police Station. A .38 revolver, which was believed to be used in shooting the suspect dead, with one live ammunition, and an empty shell, was recovered from the suspect.
As alleged, the suspect was angry at the victim because the latter kept on asking for the suspect’s payment of his debt that he failed to pay until now.
But police said envy could also be one of the reasons. —Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
