Soco gets support of 15 mayors

CEBU, Philippines - Fifteen mayors of Cebu’s second district have announced support to the candidacy of businessman Glenn Anthony Soco, the running mate of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia in next year’s elections.

The mayors reportedly expressed their support during a meeting called by Second District Rep. Pablo Garcia in Santander town.

Argao Mayor Edsel Galeos was not able to attend the meeting, but reportedly expressed his support just the same during the Christmas Party of Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Sesante at the Argao Sports Complex.

Dalaguete Vice Mayor Sesante who is seeking the mayoralty post in next year’s elections also reportedly said his group is supporting re-election bid for governor, as well as Soco’s candidacy.

Sesante said he is convinced of Soco’s qualifications as candidate for vice governor. He said Garcia needs someone who can support her plans and programs for the province for the next three years.

Meanwhile, Santander Mayor Wilson Wenceslao said he remains loyal to Garcia and will support her choice for running mate. Wenceslao, who is serving his third and last term as mayor, is running for vice mayor in Santander.

Samboan Mayor Raymon Calderon also expressed support for Soco.

Board Members Wilfredo Caminero and Peter John Calderon said they are supporting Soco because aside from knowing him personally, they admire the fact that Soco has supported the province even if he is with the private sector.

Soco played an important role in the success of the provincial government’s sports development program, especially on volleyball.

Congressman Garcia said that the mayors are giving Soco will benefit the second district in terms of projects and development, because he believes that Soco will head the Provincial Board effectively.

The governor, for her part, said the support that the mayors are giving her running mate will help continue the development of the province. She said she considers the mayors’ support for Soco as a Christmas gift. — Jose P. Sollano/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
