Trash collector crushed dead by truck
CEBU, Philippines - A garbage collector was killed after one of the front wheels of a dump truck ran over his body past 1 a.m. yesterday inside the Inayawan sanitary landfill in Cebu City.
Inayawan barangay tanods who responded to the crime scene identified the victim as Rodelito Otadoy, 50, single, and a resident of N. Bacalso Avenue, barangay Pahina-Central.
The driver of the garbage truck owned by barangay Pahina-Central and bearing license plate numbers SHU-353 was identified as Rosendo Baoy, 45, married and resident of sitio Balagtas, Pahina-Central.
According to the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management, the garbage truck was moving garbage when the right front wheel suddenly fell into a pothole.
The truck slightly tilted to the right and the victim who was trying to escape to the right was accidentally run over by the wheel when it bounced back up.
Security officers of the landfill immediately reported the incident to the office of barangay Inayawan.
Barangay tanod Romeo Cabiso said that their new mobile patrol and tanods Wilfredo Ornopia and Dindo Dumaboc responded to the crime scene and recorded the incident.
The victim was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead a few minutes later.
Baoy voluntarily surrendered to the police but was later released after the family of the victim signed an affidavit of desistance, reasoning out that the victim and Baoy were companions in the job. — Niña G. Sumacot/BRP (FREEMAN NEWS)
