13 arrested in saturation, checkpoint

-

CEBU, Philippines - At least 12 persons were arrested during a saturation drive conducted by agents of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch of the Cebu City Police Office in barangay Kamagayan last Thursday night.

The arrested suspects add to the list of several people that were also arrested on the same barangay which is considered to be a “one-stop shop” for various criminalities, according to the police.

The IDMB team led by Supt. Pablo Labra II and Chief Insp. George Ylanan also simultaneously confiscated nine gambling machines such as “moli-moli” and video kareras, ampules of Nubain, and drug paraphernalia.

The suspects, two among them are girls, were reportedly arrested for vagrancy, illegal gambling, and illegal drugs.

Ylanan said that people have been going to and fro in said barangay which they tag as a “one-stop shop” for illegal gambling, prostitution and illegal drugs.

He said that if saturation drives are conducted regularly in the area, the crimes in there, particularly petty ones such as theft, robbery, among others, will be reduced.

Labra on the other hand calls on the public to cooperate with them and not tolerate the people they witness doing acts which are beyond the law.

He said that the people should report to them in case of the same incident so that they can respond timely.

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man was also arrested during a checkpoint conducted by City Intelligence Branch-CCPO along New Imus Road, barangay Day-as, shortly before midnight yesterday.

Joseph Rosel, of F. Villa Street, barangay T. Padilla was arrested after he was caught having in his possession four empty disposable syringes, a disposable syringe containing Nubain, two lighters, and two rolled tin foils.

Like the 12 persons arrested during the saturation drive, Rosel was detained at the CCPO stockade expected to face appropriate charges to be filed against them tomorrow, Monday. — Niña G. Sumacot/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
