Capitol gives P100,000 for Z Gorres

-

CEBU, Philippines - The wife of Cebuano boxer Z “The Dream” Gorres received from the Provincial Capitol yesterday a check worth P100,000 as financial assistance for her husband who is recovering from head injury in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Datches Gorres, 25, received the assistance handed to her by Provincial Welfare Officer Marivic Garces on behalf of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia who had important matters to attend to at that time.

Garces said that the Garcias will also be handing a separate amount coming from their own pocket for the Gorres family.

The wife of Gorres also received assistance worth P100,000 from the Mandaue City government and that she is also expected to receive financial aid from the Philippine Sports Commission on December 4 yet.

Datches, in an interview, said that the outpouring of support from people – some her family doesn’t even know – helps ease the pain and strengthens their hope that her husband would survive in what could be the toughest fight of his life.

Datches said that she will be leaving anytime next week to be with her husband in Las Vegas. Gorres is currently recuperating at a hospital there.

The boxer has been confined at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas where he underwent an operation to remove a blood clot in his brain.

The 27-year-old Gorres, who was born in Agusan del Norte but who grew up in Mandaue City, collapsed shortly after he won his fight against Luis Melendez of Colombia recently at the Mandalay Bay Hotel.

Gorres started his professional boxing career in 2001. By trading punches, he was able to build their own house in barangay Canduman and to buy a car. — Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
