Probe ordered on cop who fired gun indiscriminately

CEBU, Philippines - Even in the absence of complainants, the policeman who allegedly fired his gun indiscriminately while watching the fight of Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto in barangay Pasil last Sunday remains in hot water.

This after Provincial Police Director Jesus Gaquing ordered an investigation into the incident and for the San Nicolas Police Station, the agency to lead the investigation, to locate possible witnesses.

Meanwhile, City Police Chief Patrocinio Comendador said they released Igot from detention after no one was interested to file a case against him. Comendador, however, clarified that the police office can initiate the filing of a complaint against Igot if there will be witnesses that would execute affidavits.

Igot was placed under arrest when the.45 pistol tucked on his waist fell and went off last Sunday while he was watching the boxing match last Sunday. Igot also allegedly slammed his .45 pistol on the table when he got irked after Cotto lost to Pacquiao.

Some of those in the area even alleged that Igot’s brother-in-law fired a shot into the air. – Gabriel C. Bonjoc and Niña G. Sumacot/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
