Rice supply enough for next 3 months

-

CEBU, Philippines - The National Food Authority-7 yesterday assured that there is ample supply of rice in Central Visayas that can even cover the demand in Region 8.

Maria Lucia Rosales, Information Officer of NFA-7, said there is no need to be alarmed because no rice shortage is seen for the next three months.

“There is around 1.4 million sacks of rice that are now stored in different warehouses,” Rosales said.

What the NFA is reportedly alarmed of is the shortage of the so-called “Tindahan Natin” following the closure of some outlets due to rice hoarding. Those caught hoarding rice had their licenses revoked.

Rosales, however, assured that agents are constantly monitoring the distribution of rice to “Tindahan Natin” branches to avoid hoarding and illegal transactions. - Johanna T. Natavio/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
