Two barangays get patrol vehicles; four others to receive vehicles soon

-

CEBU, Philippines - The city government turned over patrol vehicles to barangays Zapatera and Sirao to help the barangays maintain peace and order.

Councilor Augustus Pe. Jr., chairman of the committee on public order and safety of the City Council, said four other barangays- Inayawan, Parian, Babag and Binaliw- will also receive their vehicles in the next few days.

Documents showed that the four-wheel patrol vehicles were purchased from Pasahero Motors Incorporated at P445,000 each.

A few days ago, Mayor Tomas Osmeña personally turned over patrol vehicles to each of the 11 police stations in the city, and cargo trucks to several mountain barangays in the south district.

The mayor will also give heavy duty buses to the mountain barangays of the city’s south district where he is planning to run for congressman in next year’s elections.

Zapatera barangay captain Joemarie Benedicto said he will look for a place where the vehicles of his barangay can be parked to prevent congestion in front of the barangay hall along D. Jakosalem Street.

Some motorists have complained that the vehicles parked in front of the barangay hall have become safety hazards.

“Kon sa tanto nato nga likay gikan sa nag-park nga sakyanan unya madam-agan ta sa sakyanan nga atong ikasugat sa pikas nga lane, sigurado g’yod nga wala tay dag-anan sa kaso,” a concerned citizen said.

Meanwhile, Osmeña announced that the city’s asphalting project of dilapidated city roads has resumed a few days ago in barangay Calamba. He, however, clarified that the city cannot repair all the dilapidated roads because some of these are privately owned.

In a media gathering last Tuesday, the mayor explained that the asphalting was suspended temporarily pending submission of inventory of the areas that were repaired. — Rene U. Borromeo/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
