CEBU, Philippines - An organization that advocates life will be launched at the Sacred Heart Center on Monday, according to the Human Life International-Philippines.
HLI-Philippines director Dr. Rene Joseph Bullecer said the Task Force for Life is composed of lay people from different religious organizations in Cebu.
“Around 200 people here in Cebu have pledged to join the Task Force for Life,” Bullecer said.
The task force supports pro-life congressmen and will bat for the junking of “anti-life bills” in Congress.
Bullecer also emphasized that the group, which is not a Catholic organization, will support pro-life candidates in the May 2010 elections.
“Task Force for Life is designed to screen and openly campaign for (pro-life candidates) in the upcoming elections,” Bullecer said.
He said that for them to choose the right officials is by checking on the track records of the candidates whether they are pro-God, pro-life and pro-poor.
Bullecer also revealed that two presidential aspirants already sent their emissaries to ask for the group’s support.
“Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. and former Senate President Manny Villar had ask for our support but we are still on the process as we are also waiting for the January meeting with the CBCP (Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines) with regards to the Catholic voice on who are we going to vote,” Bullecer.
He said that based on a reliable source, they are looking forward to the declaration of Environment Secretary Lito Atienza to run for president.
“Track record-wise, Sec. Atienza proves his capacity being elected as a mayor of Manila and as a congressman,” Bullecer said. — Johanna T. Natavio/LPM (FREEMAN NEWS)
