22 stores fined for selling liquor sans permit

CEBU, Philippines - At least 22 business establishments selling intoxicating liquor and beverage without permit in two barangays in the city were given until Monday to get authorization from City Hall or face closure.

The establishments were found to have no permit during a joint saturation drive conducted by the Guadalupe and Mambaling police stations, Police Auxiliary Group, and the city’s Liquor Licensing Division late evening last Friday.

The saturation drive was conducted to fully implemented City Ordinance 1413 or the Anti-Liquor Ordinance upon instruction of City Police Director Patrocinio Comendador.

The joint saturation drive was conducted jointly in barangays Guadalupe and Mambaling during which 26 stores were inspected. Twenty-two were found to have no permit while four others were found not posting their permits.

In barangay Guadalupe, the group led by Sr. Insp. Mario Monilar and Cecil Delos Reyes of the city liquor licensing division fined a store along V. Rama Avenue with P25,000 for selling liquor without permit while two other stores in the area, RR Store and Andok, were fined P5,000 for not posting their permits.

The branch of AA BBQ along Andres Abellana was also fined P15,000 for absence of a permit for liquor while the Shabu-Shabu store was fined P25,000 for absence of a permit. The Dong Juan and Moon Café were also fined P10,000 and P5,000, respectively, for not posting their permits.

Three stores along M. Velez Street- Gisangag Express, Blog’s food corner, and Prince and Princess- were fined P25,000 for having no permits.

Meanwhile, in barangay Mambaling, the group of Sr. Insp. Pablo Cabildo, City Treasurer Ofelia Oliva, and members of the Police Auxiliary Group found that 16 sari-sari stores, videoke bars, and KTV bars are selling intoxicating liquor and beverages without permit. — Niña G.
