CEBU, Philippines - The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC), through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-7), sent a total of 5,280 packs of food and non-food items to Manila on Wednesday for the victims of typhoons in Luzon.
The relief packs contained rice, assorted canned goods, ready-to-eat foods, and used clothing.
They were delivered to the National Resource Operation Center in Manila via the C-130 of the Philippine Air Force.
The goods sent to Luzon were mostly donated by different government agencies and non-government organizations, local government units, media outfits, business sectors, schools and private individuals and families.
The relief assistance were packed by volunteers from the University of San Jose-Recoletos, Cebu State College of Science and Technology, Philippine National Police, Pag-asa Youth Organization of Talisay City, Youth National Service and employees of DSWD-7.
DSWD-7 Director Maria Evelun Macapobre said they would be sending another batch of relief goods to the typhoon victims who have not yet been reached by relief assistance.
Macapobre also thanked those who have donated to the government’s relief efforts.
The help desk for “Operation Tulong” for the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng continues to receive donations 24 hours a day.
