One killed as van rams bus

CEBU, Philippines - One person was killed while several others were injured when a delivery van hit a passenger bus in barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla town yesterday afternoon.

Lucio Villegas Jr., 24, of Matag-ob, Leyte was pronounced dead on arrival at Minglanilla District Hospital after the incident. Villegas works as delivery boy of Charpling Square Enterprises.

The driver of the delivery van, which transports assorted junk food, was identified as Martin Remelado, 36, of V. Rama Avenue, Cebu City.

 The driver of the Ceres Bus Liner, Tirso Abrea, 34, of Hinunangan, Southern Leyte, told dySS Super Radyo said that they were traveling to southern Cebu while the delivery van was running on the opposite direction.

 Abrea alleged that the delivery van overtook a vehicle but it suddenly lost control and hit the Ceres bus.

 “Ni-overtake man ni siya unya kalit man lang og na slide basin tungod to sa dangog kay uwan man gud. Mao to pag-slide niya diretso siya diri sa akoa. Nipiyong nalang gud ko,” Abrea said.

 Immediately after the incident, all those injured were rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital, but Villegas was declared dead on arrival due to severe injuries he sustained. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/LPM   (FREEMAN NEWS)
