Zubiri gives P4 million for street kids
CEBU, Philippines - In line with the celebration of children’s month this October, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri has donated P4 million to the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children for the implementation of projects for the children in the city.
The other day, Zubiri handed the Special Allotment Release Order for the financial assistance to the CCTFSC spearheaded by Margarita “Margot” Osmeña, wife of Mayor Tomas Osmeña, during an informal meeting at an uptown restaurant in Cebu City.
Margot expressed her thanks to the senator for his concern on the problem of the city on street children.
According to her, the city government has been implementing programs for the good of the youth and Zubiri is one of the people who showed their concern on the matter.
Mayor Osmeña, on the other hand, said that the city government acknowledged the big contribution made by the senator for the success of the programs that benefit the youths.
For his part, Zubiri said he only made true to his promise to Mayor Osmeña and his wife that he would help the city in the implementation of its programs. He added that he knew of the city’s programs to solve the problem on street children and he wants to be part of the solution of the problem.
Earlier, Mayor Osmeña said that the P4 million financial assistance from Zubiri would be spent for the construction of a building in Barangay San Nicholas that would be used as new home of the orphaned and abandoned children in the city.
Mayor Osmeña disclosed that it was his wife who asked for funding for a new building because she is concerned that the street children will not have a decent place to stay.
The city’s Community Scout Rehabilitation Youth and Guidance Center was formerly located at the North Reclamation Area but it was later transferred to the Operation Second Chance in Barangay Kalunasan when the city sold the lot to a private company.
Last year, Zubiri has also donated P1 million as medical assistance for the Cebu City Medical Center. The funds was released under the senator’s Medical Indigent Support Program, will cover medical benefits for indigent patients in the city.
The senator has helped not only Cebu City but also the province. Through his initiative, an amount of P28 million was released for the construction of a pediatric ward at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
“Basta kaayohan sa atong mga kaigsoonan nga mga Bisdak, andam gayud kita sa pagtabang,” Zubiri said. — Jose P. Sollano/WAB NLQ (FREEMAN NEWS)
