Maritime building inauguration set tomorrow

-

CEBU, Philippines - For the first time in the Philippines, a Maritime Office will have its own building which will be inaugurated tomorrow in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.

Regional Maritime chief Agustin Molina said that the construction of their regional headquarters and a boathouse is a manifestation of the desire of the Philippine National Police leadership to afford decent facilities and equipment for their personnel.

The new building worth P4 million was constructed last July 29 of this year and was completed last September 30.

The new facility, which includes the boathouse that will be used as a pier for the six brand new rubber boats, is part of the PNP Integrated Transformation Program in pursuit of the attainment of the common goal of providing improved peace and order and public safety services for the people of Central Visayas.

Molina, who was chosen as one of the Outstanding Policemen of the Philippines in 1989 and 1990 by the Philippine Jaycees, said that considering that the said Maritime building is the first and only in the country, he considered it as his legacy.

The lot that was used in the construction of the building is owned by the Department of Public Works and Highways wherein it entered into a contract of usufruct “gratis et amore” with the Maritime Police on the condition that the lot will be used by the Maritime Police as a site of a detachment that would house the Command Center of the surveillance cameras installed at the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.

The term of the contract shall be a period of 25 years, renewable upon mutual agreement of the parties and that any damage, directly or indirectly caused to third parties as a result of the said contract shall be for the sole responsibility of the Maritime Police. – Mitchelle L.
