Militant groups remember declaration of Martial Law

-

CEBU, Philippines - Around 300 members of Bayan Muna, Panaghugpong Kadamay, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, Panama Sugbu Fisherfolks, Amihan, Anakbayan, and the Cebu City United Vendors Association marked the 37th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law with a protest march yesterday.

At around 8 a.m., Bayan Central Visayas chairman Jaime Paglinawan led the march from Fuente Osmeña Circle down to Colon Street, which was followed by a short program.

During the program, the group renewed its commitment to fight any “reimposition of Marcosian rule” and called on aspiring presidential bets to help victims of human rights violations in their continued search for justice.

“Until now, they continue seeking for justice especially for their members who were killed during the Martial Law. Until now justice has not been served to the families,” he said.

Based on their record, over a thousand members of progressive groups were killed during the more than 20-year administration of Marcos; 759 of them were “desaparecidos” or those who were abducted and whose bodies were never found. — Johanna T. Natavio/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
