Girl hangs self in Cordova

CEBU, Philippines - A 15-year-old girl was found hanging lifeless from a tamarind tree in barangay Ibabao, Cordova last Saturday but her family believes no foul play was involved in her death.

Leonardo Inot, a tanod of the barangay, was the one who sought police assistance after he saw the lifeless body of the girl about 100 meters from her house. The girl used a nylon cord around her neck.

A cousin of the girl told the police the girl would reportedly tell her she would end her life because her relationship with her boyfriend had gone sour.

The girl would reportedly say she loved her boyfriend so much that she could not afford to lose him.

But the cousin said she did not mind the girl’s threats.

Responding policemen headed by PO3 Rico Emperwa brought the girl to the hospital but the town health officer, Dr. Christopher Calimbas, had declared her dead.

The girl’s father had refused an autopsy, saying he does not believe that foul play is involved in his daughter’s death. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
