City dad backs call banning "sexually suggestive" songs

-

CEBU, Philippines - City Councilor Arsenio Pacaña is supporting the call of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines to ban sexually suggestive songs, saying these “promote wrong values and immorality among listeners” from the airwaves.

In a resolution passed before the City Council, Pacaña specifically wants radio stations here to ban the songs “Banana” and “Nagmamahal ako ng Bakla” that are currently making waves nationwide.

Composers and record producers were also called on to heed the call for social responsibility in producing songs that would raise the standards of Filipino music.

“Banana” is sung by Blanktape, a Tagalog rip off of Akon’s “Right Now.”

“Sige i-try mo ang aking banana… pag natikman mo na di magsasawa… dahil masustansya ang aking banana at ubod pa ng sarap ang aking banana…” read some of the lines of the song.

Meanwhile, the song “Nagmamahal sa Isang Bakla,” sung by a new group “Dagtang Lason,” has in it the lines, “Mga tambay kami sawa na sa babae… may mga babaeng manloloko, pineperahan lang kami… kaya ngayon bakla na lang ang aming iibigin… masarap magmahal ang bakla…”

The Committee on Public Affairs of CBCP, through a resolution, recently called for the banning of the songs because of its lyrics.

A copy of the resolution was furnished to Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster sa Pilipinas, and the Filipino Performing Artists and Composers. — Ferliza C. Contratista/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
