Cuenco torn between two presidentiables
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City south district Rep. Antonio Cuenco says his heart is torn between two reported presidentiables in the upcoming 2010 elections.
Cuenco said that he still needs to think hard on whom to support, as well as ask the people to support also, since he is torn between Sen. Manny Villar and Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, who just recently announced his decision to run for president.
Initial reports had Cuenco supporting Villar, however the recent announcement of Aquino that he will run left Cuenco thinking it over.
The Aquinos and Cuenco have shared a close relationship over the years with Cuenco helping out the late president Corazon Aquino when she was hiding in one of the monasteries here in Cebu during Martial Law.
But Cuenco said he will choose only from the two and he will make the decision at the end of October, along with whom he will support as vice president, senators and the local government officials.
Cuenco also said that he will also be announcing his personal political plans as well at the same time, but is asking for ample time to think it over.
Cuenco’s son, Ronald, who recently arrived in Cebu after a six-year stay in the United States, also said that he needs to think of his political plans as well.
The younger Cuenco said that he came to Cebu for the education of his kids and his first priority is have his family settled in first before any big moves.
Ronald said that as of now there are no definite political plans yet and he hopes everything “will be clear in the proper time”.
Ronald was a former councilor of Cebu City from 1992 to 2001 and a consultant for the Office of the Mayor of Cebu City for Market Affairs from 2001 to 2003.
Rep. Cuenco said that he will not meddle in the decision of his son and will leave him to his own choice and support him in any way he can. — AJ de la Torre/BRP(FREEMAN NEWS)
