Truck runs over construction worker

-

CEBU, Philippines - A trailer truck ran over a construction worker along the North Reclamation Area, this city, the other night.

The victim who was identified through his driver’s license as one Nelson Flores, a resident of Ramona Village in Talisay City, died on the spot.

The truck driver, Pablo Gentapa, said he thought that he only hit a rock when he heard a loud thud as he never noticed of a motorcycle passing near the right side of the truck.

A member of the Police Auxiliary Group (formerly the Barangay Intelligence Network) named Francisco Ayson narrated of the “gory incident”.

“Kusog kaayo ang pagbuto, tungod to sa impact; gani nagpasad na ang pipila ka bahin sa [lawas sa] biktima,” Ayson said.

Flores was driving his motorcycle when he reportedly hit the right side of the moving truck bearing plate number GXD 328. The victim was “dragged several meters away from the point of impact,” this was further learned.

Traffic enforcers recovered the helmet of Flores about 50 meters away from the body of the victim.

The trailer truck was reportedly plying the NRA road in going to the city proper to deliver high beams and other construction materials for the town of Naga, south of Cebu when the motorcycle driven by Flores, from a mall in the area, took right turn at the NRA road and then allegedly rammed onto the right side of the truck.

“Abi nako og bato ang akong naigo,” Gentapa told TV Patrol Central Visayas.

He voluntarily turned himself over to traffic investigators who are to file a case for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide on Monday against Gentapa. — Ramil V. Ayuman/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
