CEBU, Philippines - The National Police Commission celebrated its 43rd anniversary yesterday with the theme, “Responding to the challenges of Police Service and Community Welfare.”
NAPOLCOM Regional Director Bernardo Calibo said the agency is focusing on protecting the family, it being the basic unit that can mold children not to become a menace in the community.
Yesterday, actor and soon-to-be politician Cesar Montano and Police Regional Office Director Lani-o Nerez were the special guests.
Calibo said they invited Montano because of pride he gave to the Philippines as a representative to the United Nations Economic, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
“Cesar is one of the community partners and active in promoting peace and order situation in the country,” Calibo said.
“Also, PRO-7 Chief Lani-o Nerez was chosen to be our guest being an honest official…we believe we can achieve the golden era of peace and order in the region that all must follow because of his leadership,” Calibo added.
Calibo revealed that NAPOLCOM has dismissed 40 police colonels, 20 police generals and hundreds of ranking police officials that have been remiss in their duties.
In a separate development, Calibo said the police and the National Bureau of Investigation are set to submit the documents relative to the case being faced by three former policemen of the Talisay City Police Office who allegedly extorted money from a drug suspect.
“We will consolidate their report, but we assure you there is no ‘white elephant’ involved in here”, said Calibo. — Johanna T. Natavio/JMO (FREEMAN NEWS)
