Motor boat capsized in Camotes, passengers rescued

CEBU, Philippines - A group of Japanese tourists and Filipino tour guides were lucky to be rescued by a fishing boat when the motor banca they were riding capsized when hit by a huge wave off sitio Puertobello, Southern Poblacion in San Francisco, Camotes Island last Monday afternoon.

The passengers included Capt. Fulvio Quizo, 57, Japanese nationals Takiz Miyajima, 67, Michiyo Nishimura, 20, Shuichi Asada, 55, Shayne Mia Narisma, 23; and tour guides Geraldine Tampus, 24, Francis Dexter Orjales and Juliet Gumapac, 36

Investigation revealed that the M/B World Big 4 lost control when a huge wave hit the vessel.

It was fortunate that a fishing boat owned by a certain “Mr. Suringga” was also traveling close, which helped in the rescue.

Apart from minor injuries, all the passengers are now safe. The tourists are now resting at the Santiago Beach Resort. – Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
