Residents of Mabolo complain of ongoing condo construction

CEBU, Philippines - Some residents of barangay Mabolo are complaining of alleged “unsafe” practices by an ongoing construction of a condominium in the barangay, which prompted Councilor Edgardo Labella to request the Department of Engineering and Public Works to inspect the site.

In a resolution passed during the City Council’s regular session the other day, Labella said that while the Aboitiz Persimon Condominium project would undoubtedly benefit the barangay and the city at large, “major concerns” need to be addressed in line with its ongoing construction.

The condominium project is being implemented by Dakay Construction and Development Corporation.

It is being built along M. Borces Street and the large construction equipment access the site through M.J. Cuenco and H. Joaquino Streets.

Eunida Rolida, one of the five complaining residents, was reportedly hit on the head by a round bar that allegedly came from the 8th floor of the building.

Rolida and another neighbor, Carmelita Macasero, also reportedly experienced steel pipes falling on their roofs in two occasions.

Last month, another resident, Lloyda Sultones, was horrified when a roll of barbed wire fell on an open area near her while she was washing clothes.

“Had she been there hanging clothes, a fatal injury would have surely been caused,” Labella said.

Two other residents, Juanita Sepico and Mike Colina, also complained of excessive noise allegedly coming from the ongoing construction. There also allegedly is a noticeable increase of the water level flooding the streets during heavy downpour.

“It is equally important to guarantee the residents along this area their safety from all construction hazards, including dust falling from towering building and that arising from vehicles and equipment plying public roads,” Labella further said.
