City approves payment for residents affected by bridge

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council yesterday authorized the final payment to the families affected by the opening of a road and bridge linking barangays Guadalupe and Kalunasan to make the travel time shorter for those motorists who wish to proceed to Guadalupe from Lahug, and vice versa.

Councilor Jose Daluz III explained the amount involved in the transaction is only P281,824.50 or just close to one-third of P1 million. He is hoping that the ongoing construction of a road-bridge linking Guadalupe and Kalunasan will be completed before the yearend.

It is expected that the completion of the project will minimize traffic along Escario Street especially near the Provincial Capitol.

Those motorists coming from Guadalupe no longer need to pass in front of the Capitol if they wish to proceed to Lahug because they can already pass through the bridge going to Sitio Oppra in Kalunasan.

The road that will come out after the approach of the bridge in Sitio Oppra side will be linked to Obedience Street, Kalunasan, from there the motorists will proceed to Peace Valley, then to Sitio Sudlon in barangay Lahug before going to Gorordo Avenue.

The P20 million bridge project was undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways but it is the city that shoulder the payment for the road-right-of way and for the payment of the families whose houses were affected by the approach of the project. — Rene U. Borromeo/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
