Argument with brother triggers man to stab self

CEBU, Philippines - A 21-year-old man died after he suddenly stabbed himself in front of his younger brother, whom he had an argument with last Wednesday night in Barangay Taytay, Danao City.

Reglo Pantoja, jobless, was rushed to Danao District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

Initial investigation showed that around 7:30 p.m., the victim engaged in an altercation with his brother when he went home drunk after having a drinking session with friends in celebration of the barangay fiesta.

But at the height of their argument, the victim suddenly took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the left portion of his chest.

Danao City police are however still conducting a follow up investigation to determine if there was a foul play on the incident.

Meanwhile, another man died after he committed suicide by hanging himself in the coconut tree last Wednesday afternoon in Sitio Tunga, Barangay Muhon, Bantayan.

Manuel Umbao, 59, was found dead by his wife Juliana, 57, hanging with a nylon rope tied around his neck from the coconut tree beside their house.

Juliana told Bantayan police investigators that she did not know any reason why her husband committed suicide. She allegedly only remembered that sometime late last month, she and the victim had a heated argument when she learned regarding the money he lent to some of their neighbors with interest. — Niña G.
