Towns, cities in Cebu get help from Makati

CEBU, Philippines - Cities and municipalities of Cebu province that established sisterhood agreement with Makati City have received assistance and donations from the country’s financial capital.

Makati City Mayor Jejomar “Jojo” Binay, who was in Cebu yesterday for a speaking engagement, said Makati City government is allowed to donate and extend support to any local government units it has sisterhood agreement with.”

Binay also announced his interest to seek the presidential post in next year’s election, saying “wala nang atrasan.”

Binay was accompanied by Cebu Provincial Board Member Jose Mari Gastardo during his visit to different colleges and universities in Cebu, and various barangays in Mandaue City.“

According to Binay, the city government of Makati has enough resources to address the needs of its residents.“

The towns and cities in Cebu received donations like computers, textbooks and vehicles from Makati, and their officials also held “Lakbay Aral” in the city.“

Binay said he wants to share the success of Makati City with other local government units, especially the poor cities and municipalities.“

Since last year, Makati City inked sisterhood agreement with the cities of Talisay, Toledo and Bogo and the municipalities of Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Carmen and Dalaguete.“

Binay will also visit Tabuelan on Friday to sign sisterhood agreement with the municipality.“

He said his signing of agreement with different cities and municipalities is not for political purposes.“

Although admitting that Makati City is one of the most developed in the country, he said they also need the expertise of other cities and municipalities.

Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia credited the development of Makati City to Binay’s leadership, stressing the increasing income of the city and the various basic services it delivered to the people.

Compostela Mayor Ritchie Wagas and Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco expressed thanks to Binay for the assistance that Makati City had given to their respective towns.

Meanwhile, the Subangdaku National High School in Mandaue City will soon receive computers and textbooks from Makati City government.“

Binay made the announcement during his visit to the school yesterday.“

Binay, who was welcomed by Subangdako Barangay Captain Walter Dy, told Subangdaku National High School principal Myrna Yu to coordinate with his office for the donation. – Jose P. Sollano/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
