P4 million worth of marijuana uprooted in Badian

CEBU, Philippines - About 4,000 marijuana stalks with an estimated value of P4 million were uprooted by elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group- 7 in six plantations in sitio Busay, barangay Patong in Badian town.

The CIDG led by Chief Insp. Ricky Neron conducted the operation yesterday dawn together with elements of the Regional Mobile Group and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency- 7.

Passing through Dalaguete town, the team headed to Badian at 1:30 am to verify the information about a marijuana plantation in the area. They reached the target area by 4am and upon daybreak started scouring the adjacent mountains where they found six sites planted with marijuana plants, all of which were ready for harvest.

Nobody was arrested during the operation, as not a house was seen near the plantations.

CIDG-7 has coordinated with the village leaders to identify the cultivators of the marijuana plantations.

The uprooted marijuana plants were as tall as an average man. They were burned at the plantation sites while a few were brought to the CIDG-7 office for laboratory test and as evidence of the operation. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
