Tom welcomes DOH move to cancel permit of CCMC

-

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña welcomes any move of the Department of Health (DOH) to cancel the permit of Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) if he insists to disallow non-residents to avail of services in the facility.

The mayor was elated to know what DOH-7 regional director Susana Madarietta said about the implication of the implementation of the new directive.

“Good, hay salamat, please…hay naku, that would be a nice birthday gift,” Osmeña said.

He said, with the hospital’s bad culture he is more than willing to turn over the hospital and its staff to the DOH.

“Sure please, as long as I can turn over all personnel to DOH, but they will have to cancel also Makati because they are implementing the same, so that there will be no double standards,” he said.

The mayor had announced earlier this week that he had given up on CCMC because of the several bad stories that depicted an alleged bad culture by its staff.

He said for now there are no interested investors of CCMC.

Manila businessman Manny Pangilinan, who came over to inquire about the CCMC last year, has not yet offered any formal proposal.

The same is true with others who only made inquiries like the University of San Carlos (USC).

On the other hand, Osmeña agreed with CCMC administrator Dr. Myrna Go that the issue is just plain politics.

“Yes, it is, my job is to serve the people she doesn’t understand that, that is my politics,” Osmeña said.

He said Go and the people at CCMC expect that the role of the government is to make them happy only.

“There is bad politics and good politics and she can’t understand that,” Osmeña said.

He clarified though that Go is not the problem of the hospital and relieving her will not solve it.

“It’s the whole culture, it’s like they are accepted at CCMC and the whole world owes them a favor.  I’d like to put a picture of my driver who died because the nurse had to eat her lunch or that eight year old girl who was misdiagnosed,” Osmeña said.

In letting go of CCMC, Osmeña has two options, gave out health certificates for constituents to avail or build a new hospital with new staff. — Ferliza Contratista/NLQ   (THE FREEMAN)
