Outstanding Cebuanos search open 'til July 31

CEBU, Philippines - The 9th edition of the “Ten Outstanding Cebuano Awards” will be taking place late next month as screening process is still going on and organizers continue to receive nominations from the public.

The annual award is given to Cebuanos who excel in their own chosen field of endeavor.

Engr. Greg Senining, executive director of the TOCA, said that they wish to continue with their program since it is a way of encouraging other people to do well in their respective fields and to inspire most especially the young ones.

He said that there is no age bracket though on those who could be nominated as long as they are Cebuanos and “have had a breakthrough in their work.”

He also said that nominees should have the capacity to attend the awarding ceremonies; date will be announced after the deadline of the nomination on July 31.

According to Senining, the award is given to various category levels like in the field of engineering, entrepreneurship, public service, government service, judiciary, law, medicine, architecture, sports and journalism.

He said that after they gather all the names of the nominees, the latter as well as those who nominated them will go through a preliminary interview.

But Senining explained that they would not have a hard and long time reviewing since some of the nominees in the past years who were not awarded yet are automatically nominated as long as they sure can attend the awarding ceremonies.

Senining added that after one is awarded, he becomes an “Ambassador of Goodwill” of the programs that they will pursue in line with their advocacies and in order to help out other people especially those in the same field with the awardees.

The awardees will follow the likes of previous recipients like former Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr. for Judiciary; and Government Service Insurance System president Winston Garcia. The FREEMAN’s chairman of the board, Dr. Jose “Dodong” Rivera Gullas, is also an awardee before in the field of Education.
