BJMP opens jail facilities to public anew
CEBU, Philippines - The Jail Management and Penology-7 will launch its “Jail Bisita na Program” today as one of the highlights of its 18th anniversary this month.
The theme for the nationwide celebration is, “Makabago at Maayos na Piitan, Tulay sa Mapayapa at Maunlad na Pamayanan.”
Sr. Insp. Mary Jane Inopia, chief of Community Relations Service of BJMP, said BJMP-7 has lined up several activities to make the regional celebration more significant and meaningful.
Inopia said the “Jail Bisita na Program” has been a practice of BJMP 7 since the year started with Talisay City Jail as the first facility to undertake the program and followed by the Bohol District Jail.
The program has reportedly earned positive feedback from different sectors of the society.
“It is in this context that the BJMP Regional Office 7 is keen on making the ‘Jail Bisita na Program’ as one of our priority program thrusts in order for the public to be oriented of the BJMP’s role in the society,” Inopia said.
In the “Jail Bisita na Program,” the public will have a chance to tour the facility and will get oriented about BJMP, in the hope to change their outlook towards those in jail.
“Through this, the BJMP is bringing a change in the outlook of the public towards what was once considered the least likely place to be visited - the jail,” she said. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
