Cops eye inside job in Sibonga robbery

CEBU, Philippines – The Sibonga police officers believe that the robbery that occurred last Tuesday night involving a load collector and a driver was an inside job.

PO2 Ederlino Bacusmo, investigator of Sibonga police said that they are now coordinating with Marco Miranda, employer of Jovencio Tecson, 34, load collector and George Sarael, the driver of the motorcycle, who are both residents of Barangay Guiwanon, Argao.

“Nakig-coordinate na mi sa tag-iya para makuha ang background sa mga biktima kay nagtuo mi nga inside job ra ni kay inconsistent ang tubag sa duha ka biktima ug nganung kabalo ang suspect nga naa sila kwarta ug nganung kabalo nga didto sila agi,” said Bacusmo.

The victims however denied there was an inside job, telling police they have been working for Miranda for two years already and they have not thought of stealing money that they do not own.

Tecson and Sarael earlier claimed they were robbed by three unidentified men in Barangay Bahay, Sibonga last Tuesday night around 7:30 p.m.

They were allegedly riding the motorcycle and were about to go home when suddenly three masked suspects on board a motorcycle blocked their way and pointed unknown caliber of firearm and demanded for bag containing the P300,000 cash.

For fear of being killed, the two handed the money to the perpetrators who fled towards the south direction. The victims said they immediately went to the police station to ask for assistance.

Tecson and Sarael had just collected money from their customers in towns of Santander, Samboan, Ronda and Carcar.

Police officers of Sibonga said they are still conducing a follow-up investigation for the possible identification of the suspects and to confirm if there was indeed an inside job. — Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
