Sogod chief tanod sues neighbor for assault

CEBU, Philippines – The chief tanod of barangay Poblacion, Sogod town has filed a criminal complaint before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against a man who assaulted him while trying to pacify an argument.

Wilfredo Laurente, 58, filed the complaint for direct assault yesterday against Jonel Comaingking, allegedly a neighborhood toughie.

Laurente claimed he was in his residence in Poblacion, Sogod on the afternoon of July 5 when he heard noise coming from across his house prompting him to verify being the chief tanod.

Laurente said he saw his son, Daryll, 28, having an argument with Comaingking’s father, Editho. He went to pacify his son and Comaingking’s father advising both of them to settle their differences in a peaceful manner.

However, Comaingking suddenly arrived and without any provocation hit him on the forehead causing him to fall on the ground losing his consciousness. Comaingking then fled towards his residence.

Afterwards, the victim reported the incident to the police station. Laurente’s claim was supported by a member of the Sogod Police who witnessed the incident.

Merlita Coming, a member of the PNP assigned in Sogod, said she was sitting on a bench with some friends when she saw Daryll and Editho having an argument. She later saw the victim coming to pacify but was later boxed by Editho’s son. — Fred P. Languido/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
