Farmer found dead in Guba

CEBU, Philippines – A 45-year-old farmer was found hanging lifeless from a mango tree at least 50 kilometers from his residence in the mountain barangay of Guba early morning yesterday.

The victim was identified as Louise Penecitos, a resident of sitio Lower Guba. He was discovered by his live-in partner Nene Jalipa.

Jalipa said Penecitos never mentioned anything about killing himself. In fact, they were still discussing their family’s situation the night before.

Jalipa said she woke up 3am to feed her three-month-old and discovered that Penecitos was no longer in the house. When morning came, she decided to look for him and eventually found him hanging from a mango tree with a rope around his neck.

SPO1 Henry Orbiso of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said Penecitos might have been burdened by financial problems, considering that Jalipa just recently underwent operation to treat her breast cancer.

Penecitos’ remains will be subjected to an autopsy to determine if foul play was involved in his death. — Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
