Salcon union still to decide on withdrawal of strike notice

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Salcon Power Independent Union will decide tomorrow whether or not it will withdraw the notice of strike that it had earlier filed before the regional office of the National Conciliation and Mediation Board.

SPIU president Gaudioso Iso had already denied reports that they are already withdrawing their notice of strike, which they filed early this year.

The Cebu Provincial Government has stepped into the on-going labor row and Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has asked the union last week to withdraw their notice of strike.

The union officials together with Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong had a dialogue with the governor last week to look for a possible settlement on the on-going labor row between the management and the rank-and-file employees union.

The management of SPC Power Corp. earlier described the threat of a strike by the rank and file union as uncalled for and unnecessary because it frightens Cebuanos with long brownouts despite the sincerity shown by management in dealing with its employees.

The management also warned that a labor strike will threaten the already tight power supply of the province. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
